What, if anything is difference between a'96 Collector LT4 and a base Corvette LT4. Does the Collector have different suspension or something like that? Are they mechanically identical and the big difference is all cosmetic? Thanks for any enlightenment you may have to offer.
Cosmetic.
The things I noticed are things like the emblems are different and additional ones over the side gills, the silver color, "Collector Edition" stitching on the seats, 5 spoke wheels, and black powdercoated calipers that say "Corvette". I may have missed a couple of things, but that is what I noticed. Cosmetics/appearance. But functionally identical depending on which options you get.

The 1996 Collector Edition is designated by RPO code Z15.
That code gets you:
Special edition Corvette body package.
The Collector Edition Corvette included Sebring Silver exterior paint, 17 inch, 5-spoke wheels painted silver, black brake calipers with silver “Corvette” lettering, special “Collector Edition” body emblems, P255/45ZR17 front and P285/40ZR17 rear tires, and perforated seats with “Collector Edition” embroidered on the head rest.
Black, red or gray interiors were available.
The soft-top (convertible) top was limited to black on the Collector Edition Corvettes.
You could get the CE with either the LT1 or the LT4 (some sites will say only LT4, that is incorrect). I have a 96 CE with the LT1 and mine is a true CE, RPO sticker, window sticker and build sheet all confirm.

Yep, same as with all other '96 Corvettes.
Automatic transmission got the LT1
Manual transmission got the LT4
And since the CE was available with either transmission, the engine that went with that transmission followed.
