Default Wiring fun...

I decided to pull out the HVAC unit to perform the batee.com repair process and replace the spark plugs and wires today.

Well, every single wire separator disintegrated when I went to remove the wires and getting the wires out was frankly a huge pain.

So, I stopped working on that and went inside to remove the HVAC. I found some spaghetti in the dash and console, the place that did the stereo mod was incompetent, I looked them up and thankfully they are long out of business. Their crimped connectors pulled off by hand. They had a 125w rms 4ohm or 150w rms 2ohm infinity kappa amp hooked to the factory 25w rms 1ohm speakers and the previous owner reported overheating and cutting out, which I can confirm. One fuse was improperly inserted into the amp and the main amp power was undergauge, per amp manufacturer recommended. The spaghetti is an aftermarket iPod input that sneaks in on the factory antenna connection, yanked it. I connected what used to be the lighter power and ground to a quick disconnect and am waiting on a no led double quick charge usb connector designed to fit in place of a cigarette lighter cylinder. I made hydraulic crimp connections, heat shrink with a dab of plastic/vinyl adhesive on the wire and covered it with 3m fabric tape, looks like GM put it there.

When I was under the console, I found three wires cut with black duct tape on them, see bottom photo. Black, orange and pink/black. I separated the connector, wires running to the passenger side were in place, the half of the connector going to the driver side was cut as shown. I'll be digging through the wiring diagram to see what this goes to unless someone beats me to it.

I finished repairing the controller, hopefully didn't make it worse, lol. I did not get the programmer out from under the dash yet, looks to be a PITA.

And I am definitely going to clean out all that dust and crud under the console before I put it back.

Ignore the red x in the picture, stole this from another post on the forum. Red arrow points to the connector which was cut that I am referring to.

Yeah, this was especially interesting as it was an actual business (sticker on head unit) who said they specialized in classic car audio mods and retrofits, even specifically mentioning AC Delco systems on their posthumous Facebook page.
