I did NOT KNOW that the b4p boost fan switch was utilzed as a backup on/off switch for the motor that acted as an ecm-independent way to turn the main fan on. very interesting.

IHBD, if you are right about 85’s potentially having the 86 locations of the boost/main fan sensors, it would most likely be an 86 harness, and iirc (been a while since having my 85) the 85’s egr solenoid location was above c8, beside distributor. i *think* i see that here?? not totally clear in the pic.

the second red circle shows a T (Y?) and i wasnt sure thats supposed to be there so i circled it.

Another thought, Serge, your car is so late in the 85’s run you MIGHT have the HLH3200 prom chip installed from factory but i doubt it because my understanding was that the 85 was bastardized by the epa so badly, the chugging/lugging, what feels like very early shifting but is actually very early TCC lockup, was corrected for 86 autos, and the HLH 3200 chip was supplies to 85auto owners who complained. It not only changes the TCC lockup but a few other critical things too and basically make the 85 run like the 86 and 87 autos but with an awsome 2200 stall speed TC. We will come back to this later, but you are going to want the HLH3200 prom if its not already there. You will need this prom before you start diagnosing and doing things like setting minimum idle speed for a perfect idle. The only way to obtain one, as far as I know, is one of two ways: from a junkyard/ebay. or (and the way i would) is download this simple .bin file. If you want to do it, find a custom tuner (I know Marc Haibec can do it) and download the HLH3200 bin file here: http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28...ib/HLH3200.BIN

and get it onto a chip. then enjoy the way the 85 auto should have been from the start. It took me over a year to diagnose the brutal operation of the 85 auto I had because i was also driving an 87 auto at the same time. I knew it wasnt “right” and kept thinking it was mechanical....when the whole time all it was ...was the programming on the 85’s chip.

pic of potential solenoid?

Yes, I have to figure out those too. That what looks like vacuum solenoid thing is gust hanging there on the tubes. I need to find where is is supposed to be bolted to. I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but car has a cold start problem. It won't start without starting fluid.

Maybe we can get a pic from @Bfenty of exactly what the egr solenoid system on the 85 is supposed to look like. I know his is readily available for photos as opposed to yours Dave sleeping in storage.

Serge, are you feeling like u r close to sorting the wiring on the cooling system?

If you want help, happy to help u dial in the cold start issue as well

Jumping into this thread to say that I have done a lot of the same work you’re doing now, and I have a (mostly) factory correct ‘85 car that I’d be happy to share pics from if you need them. I can probably get you some from that vac line later today if need be.

The EGR Solenoid attaches to a bracket that gets screwed in below it. Google "85 corvette egr solenoid bracket." You can see the screw in this pic I just took.

Compnine can not accurately ID any GM earlier than '90 for 'rarity' and accurate ID . They've very recently apparently it seems just taken a 'somewhat' generic pool of RPO codes that were used in the years earlier than '90, tosses them in a bucket and attempts to 'guess'! An example of this is the line for the MD8 - the line references 4L60 that wasn't GM 'lingo' until '90. W82 'Motor Trend Car of the Year' is certainly well known and in the 'rarity column' 1944 is mentioned, that report mentions 1944 many times - WAG? sure, L98 - only 1944 sure and MD9 1499 - 'MATCHES' = 'RARITY' in a legitimate Compnine report. None of the 'MATCHES/RARITY' column display a number greater than 1944. 1944 is maybe their 'favorite number OR they've compiled/requests for 1944 1985 Corvettes and the the 'matches/rarity' is a compilation of those 1944 cars.

With the modifications that are displayed with the wiring I believe a good starting point for ID would be to confirm the information on the RH Engine Block pad. That would ID the block and it's likely original but I'd say that's where a person starts. Until some sort of a base is established everything is a WAG.

Since you're in Canada it might be interesting to check your car SPID for Z49 or U18. Z49 would indicate a build intended for Canada.

I doubt the car has B4P but being the first year option for the C4 because it's missing in the report doesn't mean it ain't there. The complete Compnine summary is their's and can't be confirmed using GM information. If none of the 1944 cars (my guess)didn't have the B4P build then it ain't been tossed into the Compnine bucket yet! Likely? Maybe!

Does the Compnine actually match your SPID? I'd think likely but it might be interesting to check.

OP - your Compnine report looks to be just a couple days old so you've likely got a few requests that you paid for. If you've a GM car newer than '90 give them that VIN to ID

If you'd like to compare another '85 use this one maybe: 1G1YY0786F5126553

If you'd like to compare #'s maybe using a '90 or newer use this: 1G1YZ23JXL5800653

The '90 is mine and the '85 is IHBD - He should be able to confirm info for his 'Original Owner Car'

Thank you, I'm assuming that bracket is attached with 2 intake manifold bolts. It is missing on my car. Found one on e-bay, but for Camaro. Looks the same though. Probably will fabricate one.

I wouldn't bother with a VIN decoder. There should be a sticker that lists the RPO codes for your 85 mounted on the driver side rear storage lid. https://www.corvsport.com/1985-corvette-rpo-codes/.

As long as the VIN on the sticker matches the VIN of your car, that is the definitive answer as to what your car was equipped with.

I see, that is a shame. If you really want to know what your car was originally equipped with, a build sheet and/or window sticker from NCM would be the most accurate way to find out without having the RPO sticker.

I'm not that crazy! For that price I will just have 2 wires sticking out of the hole Or rig up button from princess auto or something like that. But what's funny - this switch is not available from anybody else. I checked northern corvette, corvette depot and corvette central. All have console button, but not this. mine is functional, but plastic frame is broken.
