That's where my '96 runs also, there've been many posts on this topic and everyone has their opinion. I personally don't believe that GM made a mistake.
You should check that the A/C condensor or the radiator are not plugged, (they like to pick up all the junk on the road)and if it hasn't been done already, flush and change out the coolant.
It's completely normal. I've seen 240 once in heavy traffic during the summer. :eek:
I have a 160* thermostat that I'm going to install when I do my throttle body coolant bypass with a '95-'96 upper radiator hose. Should lower it quite a bit. :yesnod:
Though, now I guage it mostly by oil temps. I don't take it over 2000 RPMs until the oil temp reaches 160*.
