I have an 87 Vette and the radio / CD player doesn't work . It has power to it but the antenna does not got up , and no sound comes out . How easy is it for a pro to install a new non stock stereo . He thought there was a central amp that works the antenna . Will a new stereo work with new speakers using the existing speaker wires . If someone can explain this process for an 87 I would appreciate it . I don't want any surprises .
i don't know when the Bose stuff started getting done in the earlier vettes. do you know if you have a Bose Gold system? if not, it's definitely easier and the existing wiring if good should be ok to use. if you have the Bose system it complicates things. i don't believe the 87's had the Bose yet though.
as for the antenna, i believe that still works the same as on the later cars. when the radio powers up the antenna goes up. no matter if you are actually using the radio or another function. i put in a switch so i can turn off the antenna. i don't really use the radio so it rarely goes up on my car. however that install would be different for you as mine is a 94 and had the Bose system. i think that's what your guy was probly thinking about.

It's not a corvette radio
Did it ever work?
Do all of your inside lights work?
It has not worked since I got the car 4 yrs ago . I believe all the interior lights work . If a pro changes to a traditional stereo does the antenna work off the power to the new radio and can the new speakers use the old wiring . Is there a central unit that all the wiring goes through that will make the install problematic ?

A pro will likely want to change all of the wiring and speakers
You probably have either a bad radio, a bad amp relay, a bad radio and or courtesy fuse, or the radio is simply installed wrong. It needs correct adaptor
Try changing the fuses first
