Default Changing Headlights

I'm going to change headlights in my 86.

Try 1
I watched a YouTube from ChrisFix on changing them in his C4, but it appears to be later C4, as his assembly looked different than mine. On his (and other videos) they say to turn the manual **** a bit to move the headlight toward the up position just enough to access the bezel side and top screws, but my car has a **** on the bottom...and when I turn that **** the headlight motor starts to make grumbling sounds (it comes alive). So that doesn't seem appropriate.

Try 2
I reference a Haynes manual. It says to turn lights on, then disconnect the battery, and then remove the bezel. Except...one cannot access all of the screws in this manner.

Try 3
I reference the FSM. The Replacement section is predicated on the Removal section being done first. The FSM wants me to remove the entire assembly?!

What in the cat frack?

You can flip the switch from on to parking lights and the headlights will stop at the position they were at. Moderately decent timing will allow you to reach all the screws needed.

You just turn the headlight switch on and off quickly. The assembly will open enough to get to the screws.

Thanks, FAUEE! I didn't see your post in time, so here is my modified procedure...
1. Turn headlights on.
2. Open hood.
3. Disconnect battery.
4. Remove the two bezel screws that are on the sides. Mine are T-20, but they were phillips head in the video. I used a small T-20 torx bit and a 1/4" box end ratchet wrench.
5. Remove the two bezel screws that are on the bottom (due to hood being up and headlights up). Mine are T-15 and was able to use a regular driver.
6. Remove bezel.
7. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for other headlight.
8. Lower hood.
9. Remove the two retaining ring screws that are on the bottom of the headlight. I used a phillips bit in a 1/4"-drive 1/4" socket and a tiny 1/4"-drive ratchet.
10. Remove the two retaining ring screws that are on the top of the headlight. I used a regular phillips screwdriver.
11. Remove headlamp and disconnect the electrical connector.
12. Install new headlamp and connect electrical connector.
13. Repeat steps 9 - 12 for the other headlight.
14. Raise the hood.
15. Replace bezels.
16. Connect battery.
17. Turn off headlights.
18. Close hood.

Notes:
1. I was amazed at the stuff that had collected between the headlights and bezels.
2. On each retaining ring, the lower right tab separated from the ring. Must have been a bad spot welder for that position?
3. Went with these LED's from Phillips https://www.summitracing.com/parts/PHL-H6054LED

Reason for battery disconnect...

I was following this suggestion from the Haynes book and the FSM.
