Default MAF question

just bought a new MAF, the first thing i noticed is the MAF does not have wires in it like the orig. but rather a circuit board.

Is this a newer type replacement to the original?

it is for a 87

Good question. I was wondering the same thing myself. I just picked one up for my 87 from Vette2Vette and it doesn't have the wire in it. I bought one 3 years ago and that one had the wire in it along with the bad one that originally came with the car.

Great buch of guys there, have ordered a few things from them, even misc. bolts, and they have been right on every time. so i take it your has the Circuit board in it as well?
Mine is labeled as a "well SU-145" GM PN 14094712, brand new ( got it on E-Bay for 55.00 )

Believe it or not, I still have the one that pooped out on me 3 years ago. All 3 are with the car in the shop. I'll look at the #'s tonight and see if I can tell anything from there. The circuit board you speak of, it looks like a blade? If so, then that's the type I just got then. I didn't get a real good look to notice it was a circuit board, I was just looking to make sure the wire wasn't broke. That's when I noticed the blade shape and thought, "At least the wire isn't broke."

nope, looks like a circuit board, rectangular has a heat sink hanging out into the airflow stream. Resistors near the bottom (MAF Tube Body)

It's fine. That unit is made by Wells Mfg. I tried one on my 383 which didn't work too well but it seems that most people who have used it on this borad have done so successfully.

Anybody got pictures of one these. I curious to know if this design still uses the front and rear screens with the enormous heat sink as with the original.

thanks --

Wells unit has a board instead of a suspended wire. Works just fine on my '89. Like it, especially with the much lower price. There's no screen on the back, and a much thicker 'grate' to direct air on the front.

I don't know what I was thinking. It's been over 3 years now since I took the screens out. For some reason it looked unfamiliar but I think I just plain forgot what it looked like in there. Mine are all regular Bosch units.
