"New message from: specialtypartsdirect Top Rated Seller(9,509Green Star)
Hello George,
I see you left me a negative and the reason was that this shift plate was plastic and not the rubberized finish.
The 1992-93 Corvettes from the factory when new did not have any rubber soft finish. That didn't come out until 1994-96. What year Corvette do you have.
Mark"
Does this make any sense? I damn well know raw unfinished plastic when I see it. I gave the guy a Negative 5 stars on eBay for selling me a raw unfinished lower console when the ad clearly states:Console Shift Plate for a
C4 Corvette, 1992-93, Automatic
Vehicle Application Information:
1992-93 Chevrolet Corvette (8 Cyl, 5.7L)
Product Information:
Correct Color Finish like the Original.
Includes new Ashtray Cover.
Just transfer your Shift Boot, Metal Mounting Inserts, and Lighter Assembly.
Anyways after thinking about it I believe the original rubberized finish is extinct and I am pretty sure it was applied as a foil transfer in the injection mold. So no surface coating will ever truly replicate the OEM finish but I am getting close to something I am happy with.
raw black plastic base piece that did not have to be stripped.
1. duplicolor adhesion promotor - 2 coats spray top cost within 10 minutes of last recover.
2. plastidip - yes black plastidip drained from aerosol can and sprayed with hplv gun at high air to volume.
3. wet sanded - 1500 with dish soap. too tacky and catches lint easily. rubbery but too light shade and grainy on the surface.
4. duplicolor vinyl and fabric gloss black over it. smoother with almost a naugahyde texture close to the grain of the black arm rest on the door panel. hard but tactile, doesn't scratch at all. The more I run my sandpaper hands over it the better it lays down.
5. pretty happy with it. At least the color and texture maps to something else in the interior.
6. now to do the same to the upper bezel.
so my 93 magically got a non-existent version? Like wft. So WHY the hell is a 92-93 spec'd differently than a 94-96? you must be the seller guy dude. This is a very RAW black plastic part. Your saying there was NO Coating ? Or just making a point? I've been a manufacturing engineer in plastics. The responses are less than useless. Do you really need a video of me pealing off the rubber coat on my parts? Won't YOu Look SilLy!
Ill buy else where lesson learned.

'been' is maybe the important comment here! Attitude might explain why you ain't!!!
Wasn't the intention but the 'seller' did address the issue and I would have thought that if you had initiated a 'conversation' prior to your 'rant' of NOT being correct the seller might have likely done something to maybe 'help' you. The seller addressed it and correctly so!! Seller doesn't have anything that interests me but I'd certainly NOT avoid them.

You probably need to write a letter to General Motors, asking them why certain model years of the C4 are different, I mean the nerve of them to change stuff every year?
I ordered 89 tail lights for my C4 ...and they dont fit my 96..not even close??

Not all C4's have coating. Never before 94
92-93 are not the same as 94-96 as you know now.
Why not do the right thing and retract your negative feedback because you made the mistake, not the seller
The seller can send the feedback revision request to you

I have 2 1993s and both of them have the rubbery, sticky stuff that I believe is referred to on this forum as dulso. If that is the rubberized stuff Quarsarblue is referring to, it is on some 93s.
It's possible that GM put some rubberized trim in some late production '93s. What's weird is, that while the part that the OP got is the same across all those years, the radio bezel is not, those have different lower mounts than the 94-96 models. So either GM would've started coating the old parts, or some 93's got the updated part before 94 production started.

Yeah. It was a stump the experts moment I guess. Its just re-fitment fatigue on my part. I was just frustrated with this Gen is really a mashup of what was in the pipe line like no other car I know. The build date is 10/92. I will deal with the seller and revert the rating. It happens and its really great if you can find that reproduction guy who has seen these borderline situations. He didn't deserve it, BUT on the other hand top vendors with high volumes have heads up will say to "check your part and let us know first", we've all been there. My bad. Corvette Tops is all backed up and my Zl1 reproduction wheels are 6 weeks out, and 40th embroidered grey seat covers are 2 more weeks. More time to polish her up before summer though! On the bright side !!!
Anyways I got a PM reproduce my project. I will be happy to explain DIY in detail, its just driveway level work. Once its all back together and I can post up a real detailed look at it, then decide. I can do these in a couple days with proper drying wait times depending on the weather. Its fairly easy if you have a bit of repair skill. Not sure what I could offer for a guarantee though. Its just paint and I can guarantee the bezels will be- Black, slightly textured, low gloss, and not have runs.
On my parts if you look close up, I could have taken down the substrate a little more. I will buff the edges a little better and recoat, that should lay it down pretty well. I figure its a high wear part so I was just going to let life happen to it.
Wait for pictures.

Some people don't realize how an undeserved negative rating can affect a business. There are many scum businesses out there that deserve the lowest rating possible. Then there are legitimate businesses that do a good job and try hard to please their customers. Nobody can please all customers and sometimes one will get a hair up his *** for some misunderstanding. Instead of contacting the business and clarifying the situation and making sure the vendor deserves it, it is so easy for the consumer to haphazardly place a one star rating without thinking of the consequences. Some businesses rely on ratings for survival. Think twice before trashing a business. Otherwise you end up looking like an ***.
