I usually complain when I experience bad customer service from somewhere, so I thought it was only right to post a good experience I had lately. I bought a new Optispark distibutor for my '96 Corvette last fall from Petris Engineering given the good reputation they seem to have online. It's been working perfectly since, but due to a misunderstanding on my part about the way its vacuum system works, I mistakenly thought the distributor may not have been built correctly after doing what I thought was a quick test to make sure the vacuum system was working properly.
So despite it being about 6 months after the purchase, I emailed Petris Engineering with my question. I got a reply back from Chris Petris the very next day who went into pretty good detail about exactly how they build their vacuum systems and why. The bottom line was that what I am seeing on mine (i.e. lack of noticeably pronounced vacuum on the air cleaner duct lead) is completely normal.
I was very impressed that Chris took the time to write pretty lengthy reply, despite the length of time since the sale, to explain how the system works. I'm left with a definite feeling that he must care quite a bit about the product he sells.
Thanks for the feedback. I have been debating buying a vac harness or building one. Seeing good feedback like this makes me lean more towards buying one from Petris. .
