Default grill mesh ?

after cleaning up the front end between the radiator and condenser(?) bird nest of rocks and such -

has anyone added any type of grill mesh to the front opening to help prevent or reduce any of this?

or is that a dumb idea?
any thoughts?

Not a dumb idea and over the years there have been a number of guys who have done that and posted about it. Usually people use mesh bought at the hardware store. Generally a larger mesh 1/4" or 3/8" is better than the tiny screen door mesh. You want to stop plastic bags, rocks, twigs, leaves, etc but ..... the air still needs room to get through.

Fitted between the assorted fasteners under there, you can use nylon bird netting.

This should have been factory-installed on all C4s:

If you are interested, Marc Haibeck offers this from his ZR-1 product line for 1990 and later C4s. It can easily be adapted to older cars as well.

Marc is fantastic as most of you probably already know...

Or, if you're more of the DIY type, you can make your own, as I did in the one pictured above.

I think yours looks better than the $98 installed version also. I plan to do this as well after lifting radiator to clean out the leaves. Home depot has a expanded metal sheet for $11. Other sized available as well.

I did the homemade "hardware cloth" (steel mesh) installation too. Doesn't look as pretty as the others but it works awesome. I used 2 layers for strength and regularly find straw, bugs, other debris caught in there. Radiator and condenser are still very clean after 6 years and 28,000 miles.

This thread contains some info about how I fabricated those screens:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...adiator-2.html

It's been about 15 years since I did those, but I think this is what I used for the raw material:
