I' be curious to know where the under hood lights get their juice from. The bulbs are good and I don't find any blown fuses. All the electrical stuff seems to be functioning ok. Checked for power at the plug in the corners by the headlight wiring. What should I be looking for and where?
So I started to look a bit closer and noticed this fuse holder attached to the left side marker housing. It's marked FUSE so I opened it up and there's the problem the fuse was missing. I put a 15 amp fuse in the slots and the lights are working! I should have been more thorough before I asked!

Glad you had a happy ending, so now if you go to car shows, and the hood, you will know how to turn them off!

Just a heads up that technically there should be a 10A fuse in that slot, not a 15A. Won't harm the bulbs any to put a 15A there, will just heat the wiring up a bit more before it blows. Glad you found it, sorry I wasn't around this morning when you asked!

Thanks! I didn't see anything, didn't look that hard either, for a fuse size just took a guess. I have some 10 amp fuses so I'll pop the correct size in next time the hood is opened!
There is available a prewired connector set that goes between the line and connector for the lights. It has a push button switch in it and water tight connectors on it so it won't leak. I bought one for my 86 a few years ago and they work very well, push the button and the lights are either on or off. IIRC it was around $30 and was a plug and play. No need to pull fuses to disconnect the lights when the hood is left up for a long time.

Cool! where did you get it? I just looked at Ecklers they have a set-up but want $101.00 for it. I like buying things for my cars but that's a bit excessive. Pulling the fuse makes more sense. Or just don't open the hood at a show...An LS1 is just all plastic, black and boring to look at IMO

I just wired in a waterproof toggle switch on each light with an LED bulb. Dan
I hope you don't mind...I took your idea of using toggle switches and modified your idea.
I snaked a wire ( two conductor) through the hood cavity and wired the lights up with one switch. I soldered and shrink wrapped the connections and relocated the switch. I was afraid I would have a hole in the wrong place and the light would not fit back in the hood. Anyway here's some pictures

That is a better idea than mine. I have never used these lights since I put the toggles on. They stay off. My garage has good lights and I have never had to get under the hood on a dark road at night. Dan

Mine are off too but if I need to use them I can. I like to have everything working if needed.
