Hello everyone this is probably a silly question but
I have a 1989 C-4 Corvette black interior at night I have a difficult time finding the key hole for the ignition. I hope I’m not the only guy that has this problem if I’m not what did you do to rectify it. I would like to find a small stick on lithium powered light that I can put near it to tap on so I can’t find the ignition switch
In a 1989 the Courtesy Lights are supposed to stay on for about 30 seconds after the door is closed, or until the key is turned to RUN. If the lights do not stay on after the door has closed, then the timer has probably been bypassed after it failed. There are also map lights in the bottom of the rear view mirror that come on with the courtesy lights. These should illuminate the inboard side of the steering column enough to find the key hole.
Do your courtesy lights stay ON after the door is closed? If = No, I'd fix the timer and see if having interior illumination helps you find the key hole at night.
Hi, yes, he courtesy lights stay on, it is an age thing. I see great but the ignition switch is hard for me to see or find in the dark. I'll check out the map lights and see if they can help. Thanks.
No offense, but IMO, you should know your car --any car you drive regularly-- well enough that you don't need to look for the ignition. Or any other control that you use regularly, for that matter--especially the interior light switch. Slightly off-topic but I'm not that old and I remember a couple of driver's tests where the first thing the officer did was to make sure I knew where stuff was located. He did it fast enough, too, that there wasn't time enough to look or feel around.
Best,
Jerry
Edit: Likewise, you should be able to field strip and reassemble your weapons in the dark as well.
