My heater core went out, and I decided to wait until after the holidays to get it fixed. In the meantime I bypassed it by removing the two hoses and connecting them together, which as far as I know is all I need to do.
I get a slight leak of coolant out of the place where I removed the hoses, and my floorboard still gets a bit damp. I can clean it up, that's no problem.
My question is, how much fluid could this thing possibly still be holding? And is there any way I can suck it out of there so that I don't have to clean my carpet every day?
I'm not so much concerned about losing it under the hood. I just hate having a slight antifreeze glaze on the inside of my windshield every day after I wash it.

Hey....you keep changing the problem area.....carpet, now windshield.....
If you have the hoses connected, by-passing your heater coils, why are you getting leakage anywhere? If your windshield is fogging up when you use your defrost setting, you may have a leak in your coil system. There should not be any coolant leaking on your carpets from a sealed system.
Whoa....I finally caught up with you.....you coils are shot, and the remaining fluid is leaking out of the coils.......got it!......Remedy.....place a tube over one of the nipples, plug the other nipple, and blow hard.....I'm afraid compressed air might make a mess.....make sure you have sufficient towels to catch what coolant remains. You will still get film on your windshield until the coolant has dried.

I think all the coolant in the heater core already drained down to the carpet... its the windshield fog up due to no heat or ait to dried. When I did the bypass I don't think I have air conditioning either.
Damn......carpet, windshield, now no air conditioning. How long is this thread going to get?
I'm not smart enough to solve your AIR problem, but you will get a film on your windshield until the coolant has totaly dried from your carpets. You might post your air problem in another post. I'm sure many members will respond.. Good luck!
Yeah, the carpet is annoying just because of the effort of cleaning it. But the windshield is a real problem because it'll fog up while I'm driving. And it's not just a simple mist that a quick defrost (on cold setting since I have no heater for the time being) will fix. It's kinda sticky, and even after wiping it it'll leave fat drops.
What really sucks is it'll be in a parking lot while I'm at work, and I'll come out and everyone's windshield will be clear as can be, and mine is pretty much solid white. Gotta represent a good image for the Corvette!
Anyway, I think I've got enough info from this thread to bandaid it until after the holidays. Thanks guys.

I already fix my heater core myself and everything work fine, thank you very much. I only point out that when you by pass the hose, the car might not have air conditioning either. Read the post and stop being so nasty on your writing.
VQT88Vette...your complaint is accepted. I did misread who the author was of the post, but my "nasty" remarks were presented in jest. I was just trying to bring a smile to a member. Lighten up.....
