Hi, I have a 1989 corvette. My issue seems to be the car goes into a security lock at time and will not start. I have read many articles regarding the vats system. But since the car was purchased new it's had a issue on and off. At one point i found a procedure that helped turn off the security ( Like key in ignition lock the door from the outside open from the inside etc.) I can't remember this sequence dose anyone else know it or have any ideas how to bypass the security? IT's been a few years since i drove the car .. it's back up and running great beside this annoying issue.
You might want to post in C4 forum……we simpletons here in C3 forum only have to deal with carburetors and simple systems. No computers on my Corvette……!
You need to find out what the key resistance is (the small pellet on the key), than look up the code for that key than order a by pass jumper this will eliminate the key pellet and key reader.
Do a search here on vats issues lots of posts and information.
Let me ask you, do you have this problem after driving the car for while, you shut it off, and then come back and it starts right up, like nothing, turn the key and starter doesn't turn over.
Then after about 30 minutes it starts, it's that is your problem, it's heat sink to the starter, a known problem, and you need to replace the starter.
