Hi all. Weird ask I know. My wife loves her 95 but can't handle the stick and wants to convert to automatic. What would I need to make that happen. Thank you
The easiest thing to do would be post an ad asking if someone would be interested in a trade. I'd think that would be the least expensive route too. Otherwise you'd need a transmission, flex plate, torque converter, probably a different computer, and a transmission wiring harness. Doing so will also lower the resale value of your car.
I recommend trade / or sell and buy as the fellas are saying . Plan B is all you would have to change is your Shifter , flex plate from flywheel , torque converter ,4l60e or 700r4 transmission ( depending on how you work out the pcm issues ) c-beam , driveline , maybe a differential depending on your gear ratio choice , and a ton of stuff not mentioned ( lol) just wanted to give a quick glance at the work list . Stick cars sell fast ,
GOD bless ,
Robert
I'd trade up to a newer model with a more enjoyable stick experience.
Your wife will hate it but your new gf will love it.
All jokes aside, swapping manual to auto would be cost prohibitive vs trading cars. Or getting her an auto for herself to drive.
Yep.
Just buy an automatic car... Generally, stick shift cars are a little harder to sell, but are worth more, so you might make a little profit while you're at it if you're patient.
My ‘86 stick was for sale momentarily in Michigan. When I found the Bose didn’t work for some reason, I opted to buy an aftermarket touch screen unit and I haven’t installed it yet, so I pulled the ad . Plus the ABS light is on and I haven’t diagnosed that either. I’ll put it back on the market when its done . If you want a 4+3 though, this car is nice. The transmission has been completely re done with every upgrade available, plus new Hays clutch and flywheel . Shifter has short throw kit and bronze bushings. The chip in it makes overdrive selectable in any gear. Its probably as good as a Doug Nash can get. I will sell the car when its ready, so if you’re looking, contact me. This car has every performance option available other than the ZR1 motor. PO bought it to tide him over until his ZR1 arrived.
I had my ‘86 stick and a a ‘94 automatic that was a nice car, but actually i sold that and kept the ‘86. At the time it looked as if Chevrolet was trying to phase out sticks. I think only about 20% of ‘86 models were stick.
