My friend has an 85 and his driver side window is down and wont come back up. I was at Carlisle and one of the vendors there said to me that we should not replace the OEM setup but there is a new part that works better (something with a belt). Forgive me, like an idiot and lost his card and I can not remember what he said to replace.
Is anyone able to help guide me to what this "improved" part is and where I can order one? Im not sure if he needs a new regulator because it makes no noise when trying the window up/down button.
I would call a glass company that replaces these for living, and knows what regulator to use.
I know I used Charlie Glass here in S Florida, and glad I did, cause there special wrench used to remove the regulator, and 1 bolt snapped, and they had part with them.
Don't try it yourself, cause after installations there is adjustment to mate the window.
The replacement ribbon is about 15$. Figure you have to go through the hassle of removing the regulator to replace the ribbon, you may as well just install the upgraded later style and not have to worry about it ever again... unlike the ribbon that'll probably need to be replaced in another 5-7 years because it (at least mine was) is a much thinner (narrower teeth and holders/track guides) and brittle plastic compared to the original.
As far as adjustments, if you mark the glass on the mount before you remove it from the regulator and mark the bolt mounts you hardly need to adjust anything. For the later style regulator you need to drill one new mounting hole iirc as there is a part that is in a different spot.
