Its funny how easily you notice them when you own one and are enthusiastic about the car. I drive by an identical color 84 to mine every time I go to visit my mom. I stopped and inquired about the car, which had been sitting for more than a decade. The owner said he wouldn't take less than five grand for the car. I respectfully passed and thanked him for his time. Shame because the car will likely languish there until its scrapped.

You need to stay in touch. Leave your number, tell him if he decides to sell for less you'd be interested in discussing it. Get on a first name basis, become his friend. About once a year, stop in and say hello. Show him how nice YOUR Vette is, tell him you'd like to make his that nice but you'll have to put a lot into it so the purchase price just isn't doable for you now. We've had a couple cases over in C1-C2 where somebody kept in touch for several years, then the owner decided to get serious about selling.
And others never do get serious and the car rots into the ground. .
That's actually a really good idea. With it being a Z51, its more desirable to me. The automatic trans isn't desirable but its liveable. I saw someone at the building where its kept outside last week and I was in my identical colored 84. My son wanted to stop and ask the guy again but I told him no because the owner was living in a fantasy world with his pricing. It may be a good idea to stop in again and talk to the owner. Who knows, maybe he's ready to sell the car for a reasonable price.

You never know! Don't argue price, maybe not even discuss it. Just say you want him to have your number and that you like the car. Hey, take time to get to know the guy, find SOMETHING to BS about so you have a rapport.
One of the guys in C1-2 kept in touch with somebody for a silly amount of time - I think it was 5 years or more but maybe I'm wrong. Always the same thing, didn't want to sell. Finally one day he ran into the guy and the owner asked "Are you still interested in that Vette?". The same hold true with price - the guy may decide after a while that his price IS too high, and at that point maybe you can bring him around to a deal.
