I am located near Milwaukee, WI. I’m new to owning a corvette. I have a 1988 C4. Does anyone recommend anyone / place to get a good tune up. Almost everything on my car is stock. It has no catalytic converter, straight pipe exhaust, new tires, new oil. I just want this car to be reliable and would like to start with a tune up. I am new to owning a Corvette. I would like to know recommendations for getting a tune up. I’m located near Milwaukee, WI. The car is basically stock except for new brakes, new tires, new oil change. It has no catalytic converter and a straight pipe exhaust. Please let me know of some place reliable I can take it to for a decent price!!
Is your SES engine light on? Does the car start and run ok? is there anything that might be out of sorts on the car?
L-98 engines do have some self diagnostic properties built in, but other than that, unless the cars not running properly they're pretty much set to go.
The big concern I had on my 89 was the fuel system, and fuel injectors, but this was evident when driving the car, and had to be addressed, pretty much if it isnt broke dont fix it kinda thing.
These cars can have annoyances, leaky valve covers, sticky hood springs, plastic bits and pieces that rattle, alot of it can be electrical gremlins also, if your car starts and runs ok, you can do proper maintenance to the thing, but its hard to tell on a 30+ year old car whats going to break at any given moment, they are reliable out of the box, but these cars can get buggy
Keep an eye on oil usage. Mine ran fine for year or so, then started using a quart of oil in a tank of gas. Then found a fouled plug and eventually all this lead to some previous owner (PO) replaced the oil ring on a piston with the wrong version. It wore fast and started letting enough oil through to foul the plug after 100 miles. I cheated for a year by replacing the plug every 100 miles so I could still take a Drive regularly while chasing the issue, ran great.
Not saying you'll see this, instead just like any other car, keep an eye on various things. L98 is known reliable, same token your car is 33 years old.
If it's beyond your mechanical capabilities any reputable/qualified garage should be able to do it. It's nothing overly complicated but be prepared for the Corvette tax.....
Some folks in my club go to these guys http://corvetteconnection.net/
They say the prices are "fair"
I do my own work, so I've never been there, but it's worth a call
