Timing chain covers
This 1987 C4 apparently spent a lot of time at the beach. A Florida car that maybe ran on the beach at Daytona? Whatever, everything is pretty rusted out in the front end. The oil filter actually rusted a hole for the oil to squirt through. The oil pan and timing chain cover are quite rusted so I've decided to change them. However, I can't find a new timing chain cover that has the timing tab mounted on it. Why? Is there some sort of new way to check timing I'm not aware of? Granted, I'm almost 80 years old and a lot of things have passed me buy, so what have I missed here?

People hear Florida car and they think sunshine....happy car. Wrong! If the car lives in FL for any real length of time, the salt air will destroy rubber bushings and speckle castings and metal bits to death.
Maybe there's some forum guys in your area that can jump in and lend a hand on some repairs. I'm trying to reach out to some folks where I live to do the same.
