An '85 would have had a column lock via cable for either transmission. Is your an A/T or a 4+3 manual transmission?
The FSM covers both - 7B-7 for a manual trans and there an image 7A-25 on page 7A-15 for the A/T. A quick glance it didn't seem very complete.
