During my tear down I have forgotten what part connects here, the place that has the screw driver sticking into it. Is that part of the EGR system? Just under the distributer on a 1987 C4.

That's where a small tube goes from the water system to one of the hoses to your heater core. I have the same on my 89

....but... The heater core leaks, I live in Florida, and I'm not going to get involved with trying to replace the heater core now. So, if that Coolant Steam Vent Tube is needed and water must flow through it, where should I connect it for now? Should it be to a supply side hose or a return side hose? Searching through YouTube, it seems that there is a tube on both sides, is that correct?

If it were me, I'd hookup everything as normal except at the heater core inlets - just put a piece of pipe that connects the two hoses to each other near the core. This essentially mimics the heater core circuit itself, and you can keep your stock hose setup without cutting anything major. Then when you install your new core - just remove your U-turn pipe and connect those hoses back to the heater core.
