I just picked up an 84 C4 with the crossfire. Can I remove the crossfire injection and put a different intake manifold on the car? If so, what is one of the best that would work the best for this car Thanks!! I picked up this 84 with 39k miles on it was literally 10 houses down from me. I am a professional body man but don't know much about motors I can work on them I can do anything really Just need gaudiness I best parts to choose. Since I got this Car for a decent Price, I am looking to put about 5K into the car. with headers, exhaust new suspension. Stuff like that. I already bought everything I want for the interior; new carpets seats speakers touch screen radio Just to make it a little more modern. I am about to buy 17-inch rims and tires. and to top it all of I am painted it that Polo Metallic green and tint the windows. Starting from the inside and working out. I have 3 months before it starts getting warm because its winter here in New York lol. want to start buying things so i can get this car done as fast as possible so I could take it to my local car show in this summer. I am going to hold onto this car for a while so money really isn't much of an issue, but I would like to save if I can I want to give this car the life it deserves hahah Nice to meet everyone here on the forums!! and Thanks again!
From: Arizona - If you don’t know CFI, STOP proliferating the myths around it...
Why replace it? Just port the stock intake and it will run much better. CFI IS a very simple system to work on, you just need to understand how it works. Buy a 84 GM service manual as well.
Thanks I just don't like that big cap that covers the top of the motor kind of hides the valve covers a little bit. this is a quote someone sent me ("These are the 2 bbl tbi units that were on 87-89 350 trucks. Use a good 4 bbl intake and a tbi adapter. all the wiring connectors are the same, but you'll only use one IAC valve.") what would you say about that? they said its cheap and super easy. If anything, I will do what you said and just paint the crossfire cap to match the cars paint and the valve covers that would look pretty good I think.
I live in orange county New York everything is so strict here. But all the police visit our body shops in town, and they love cars so they probably wouldn't mess with me in my town. I have gotten to know the police in 3 towns around me. But I do need to take things into consideration

I think I agree with Buccaneer.
First; you can put a different air cleaner on it if you want to see the valve covers (and intake) better. You can use two small ones or the CFI air cleaner from a CFI F-body.
Second: "Someone" was FOS. The CFI is most definitely NOT the "2 bbl TBI units that were on the '87-89 350 trucks" That someone is way, WAY off the mark....in a plethora of ways. TBI was used in trucks, F-bodies, B-bodies, starting in '88 (not '87). Truck used 'em through '95, not '89. All 2bbl TBI used a dual plane intake, just like a dual plane intake that you see in any stock carb'ed application.
Anyway, the CFI intake is totally different and uses two separate, 1 bbl TBI units on a single plane/crossram intake. The most significant issue with it (for the end user) is the too-small runners. As Bucc said; port 'em out (all the way) and you get a bunch of free power.
If you want to entertain and educate at local car shows, the Crossfire system is the way to go. When I enter my 82 with Crossfire into a local show, I always get dozens of inquisitive young-uns wondering WTF? I get middle aged dreamers talking about how they knew someone who had one.
Plenty of high-rise 4-barrels, TBI units, MPI, and TPI’s but rarely do I see a CFI.
If you want power and a local car show talking piece, listen to these guys.
What do you have to lose? You already have the system. Clean it up, put a kit in the injectors, try some different air cleaners, see how it runs and looks. If you are not satisfied, you have very little time/money invested and you can make the big change next season.
Congrats on the car. Forum etiquette mandates pictures, by the way.
Are you going to change the front/rear caps to match the later year C4’s or are you referring to the shine on that paint?
Your two-tone 84 will get plenty of attention if you get it all original and mint with glossy paint. The 84 was, and is, a special part of Corvette history. Get the book on the history of the C4 development. Interesting.
Thanks, I am just talking about the paint job and rims no bumper changing. But I was also thinking the same thing keeping it stock paint because it will keep it all original.
