Has anybody removed window tint from rear window on C4. At night I have a hard time seeing in the rear view mirror as the rear window is too dark. I dont want to damage the rear defroster.
Take it to a professional tint shop. The rear window film bakes on hard in the sun over the years, and it gets brittle with age. When you try to remove it, odds are it'll tear into strips and disintegrate - even if you use a heat gun like you're supposed to do on tint film removal.
A shop will bag seal the full window and pump ammonia into the area to dissolve the adhesive while wearing a respirator (ammonia = hella dangerous to inhale). Then they'll get it off without it disintegrating and without damaging the defroster elements. Cost ~$100 or so but it's worth it.
I've done this job on a car I owned, back hatch tint removal. I'd gladly pay somebody else to do it for a hundred bucks. I parked in full sun, used a handheld steamer, black garbage bag taped to outside of glass, vinegar in a spray bottle, sponge, plastic kitchen scraper, rags. Took awhile. Messy. Yes. It came all apart leaving many places to steam and scrape. Didn't damage anything, though.

I don't know where there's a tint shop around me, so I don't know what this job will cost. I do know it'd been worth a hundred to me for someone else to do it.
