Hi all, long time lurker who bought my first C4, and first Corvette. It's a 1985 that has had many new mechanical parts put onto the car, and needs plenty of cosmetic help. Of course, despite being looked over, it promptly dropped oil all over my garage floor, but aside from my oil leak and tire balancing, it should be good to go. Looking forward to learning a lot from folks here, and sharing any experiences that might be valuable to others. To answer the first question that I know will pop up: The wheels are XXR565 "Hyper Gold". I have no idea about spacers or offsets, they were on the car when I bought it a few days ago. 285 35 18 tires in rear, 255 40 18 tires in front. My goal is to make it 100% mechanically rock solid, I've never worked on a vehicle before, but with the magic of the internet I will start small and let the pros do the hard stuff. Once that part is complete, I'll sort the few electronic issues (door hatch switch is bad, no lights under hood installed), and then it will be on to paint and interior cosmetics. All in due time. My first drive was a hoot - no insurance nor plates, 25 minutes home with the Flowmaster FX making tons of noise. The best part was a C8 pulling up next to me at a light, rolling down the window and giving me the thumbs up. Looking forward to making memories with the family, and going on short cruises. Cheers!
Thanks all, looks great except the paint has plenty of bubbles and looks bad up close, and the interior needs to be refreshed. Everything else is great. Can't wait to get it on the road!
Not sure if you know, but there is a thing among Corvette owners to give a nod, waive, thumbs up to other Corvette owners. Regardless of year. Some members have reported that certain groups feel they're superior, but I rarely find that the case. I didn't know about this for a while after owning my first C4 and commented to my buddy that I'm always getting waived at by other Corvette owners. He filled me in...
Hello everyone, I seen the picture of the '85 and it is sweet. I am new to the forum as well and just bought my first Vette a few years ago. Still at the shop trying to get the motor and transmission before working the interior and cosmetics of the car. Even my wife is excited about it, which great.
