My 96 doesn't seem to have a CD player, just has a cassette slot above the radio buttons. I kind of assumed this whole time that corvettes didn't get a CD player til the C5 but now I'm seeing pics of cd slots in the C4 and people saying it came out in 1990. Do I have a older replacement stereo in my car or was the CD player just an option that my car doesn't have?
usually the base car did not come with CD, mine did not, more than likely if you car has a CD player, it also has power seats, and climate control, some with the ride control selector.
Not to labor the point, but alot of that extra stuff would need fixed over the years. and honestly be a bit costly. With the advent of bluetooth adapters in the cassette player, Cd remains fairly unused anyway
as for the climate control. a large percentage of those units, needed fixed or replaced also.
And power seats, well...my previous vette had them, they were in need of repair also, not exactly cheap.
My 93 has the Boise Gold with CD and Cassette tape, neither of which worked. I had to replace the CDM because it was setting in water in the storage compartment. That fixed the radio but not the CD. I sent it to Doctor Don in Texas, he repaird it for $300 plus shipping. I hooked it up and it still didn't play. I called him and he said send it back at my expense. After he received it he called and said send him the CDM, so I did. He said the CD needed more parts and a new cable from the radio head to the CDM located behind the passenger seat. Another $360. It works but doesn't sound all that good. If I had know what this was going to cost I would have replaced it with a new aftermarket stereo system that would have sounded a lot better for a lot less money!

I have a 93 also with Bose and CD...CD player also doesn't work. My system works 100% outside of that and had been using a cigarette adapter FM transmitter for bluetooth...I have just ripped the head unit out along with the CDM (leaving all wiring in place in case someone ever wanted to go back) and am in the process of installing this, using the harness adapter: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130DM2...H-2660NEX.html
Along with a backup camera (because, why not, the head unit supports it!), USB/AUX instead of cigarette adapter, mic... it will take me a bit to finish because I want to get all of it wired/working properly and I'm also pulling my ZF out at the same time! Winter projects!
Also, going with an aftermarket HU allows you to do further upgrades if you ever decide to ditch the stock speakers entirely or add a sub...my bose sounds decent enough I'm going with the stock amps/speakers for now, not sure how the base speakers sound...
EDIT: Note I went with a multimedia ONLY HU because I don't use CDs anymore anyway....there are cheaper options that do have CD as well...
My 1996 GS has every option possible except the CD player. Really odd to pick LTPWS, F45, etc and not have it but who knows.
Regardless now it doesn't matter. I use a Bluetooth hands free device that plugs into the cig lighter and stream pandora through an FM station (and use it for hands free mobile phone use)
