For those of you that have replaced the 2 underhood lights with LEDs - do the new bulbs (578s?) just fit right in to the sockets and fit beneath the lens covering them? Any particular bulb you recommend for the max. light output and least wattage? I don't want to order these 'till I know they will fit.
Thanks.
I ended up getting some regular-length LED bulbs and had to solder the mercury switches to them before installing them. That worked best for me. If you can get extra-long bulbs, they'll stay on all the time, because you wouldn't have the mercury switches for them.

F.Y.I.
The mercury switch is part of the light fixture/socket not part of the bulb.
Funny disconnected mine shortly after getting my car in 96 and never have used them since...personally never got this feature...LOL
I understand doing any roadside repair at night to the engine would be a rare occurrence, they would be helpful for "seeing" a problem (blown hose, broken belt, etc.). But I think they would be very helpful if you were changing a front tire on the side of the road at night! I love this feature, so much so, that I upgraded my original plastic lenses with NOS glass lenses and using "weather-pack" connectors I wired in weather proof toggle switches on each side, so that each light can be controlled independently! So, 99% of the time they are switched "off", but in the event that I need to shed a little light on the situation, a flick of the toggle switch and I'm in business👍 Switch above side marker bulb socket Used side marker mounting screw on both sides, so no extra holes/alterations. Mounted toggle switches to facing out when off!
