Background -- I was driving along in my '96 awhile back when it shut off. Stored codes said the distributor stopped communicating so the Optispark must've given out. No problem, needs a new distirubutor. Got it towed to a local Chevy dealer. They kind of whined about working on a car that old, but they took it in. They installed a new distributor and some crank sensor, and it ran -- not worth a darn and certainly not drivable. They said it needed new plugs and wires. Did that, and also put in a new coil, but that made little or no difference. Now they're kind of scratching their heads and figuring out what they might do next. OK, don't yell at me, I know the dealer was not the best idea.
So MY QUESTION -- I am in the Long Beach/Torrance area of So Cal. Does anyone know of a repair shop in the area that really understands C4s and can find the problem?
That sounds like there throwing parts on at your expensive cause they have no experience on C4 Corvettes.
I had similar on my C4, and it turnout to be the computer, not saying that is your problem.
I would look for Corvette Club in your area, and ask them who they take there car to for repairs, here in Florida we have few good shops that knows all generations of Corvettes.
I have been in your shoes and know it is frustrating.

What year is your car?
I'm in the area, Hawthorne. I know my way around an LTx. Im more than willing to come help you out.
Thanks AgentEran, but I'm really looking for a knowledgeable repair shop in the area that I can tow the car to and get it fixed.
Cool. I have that too. Its always good to know what the problem is, buy parts then negotiate a labor cost with the shop but any good shop will apply the $150 you would pay in diagnostics toward the labor/job if/when you let them do the work.
Drulis Bros Auto Repair
5113 W Rosecrans Ave Hawthorne, CA 90250
This shop has a couple old heads that have been wrenching for over 30 years and a couple young techs to do the major labor. They know their way around a LT based C4 and I have sent others to them in the past for optispark issues.
They will charge you around $2k to do this job end to end without any hassle on your part.
Transversely, an optispark/water pump job on your LT1 is an awesome way to save money and learn more about ur car. a good opti runs about ~$450. wp ~ $100.
