Service work
It has a very high idle and he wants to have it serviced. He lives in Anderson SC and has had it to a local Chevy dealer who did not fix it after 2 months. He says that he has checked with all the local dealers in the area and they say they do not have the computers to work on a 92 due to the age?
Does anyone have an idea on how he should proceed, I suggested contacting GM to inquire.

Where to take it?
What tools are needed to fix it?
What steps to take it to fix it? Are you able to help him, mechanically w/some advice?
Has any one checked for obvious things like a throttle /cruise linkage issue, sticking TB, or vacuum leak?
thanks for the response, He sounded exasperated and wanted to take it to a Chev Dealer but could not find one that would work on one that "OLD" I told him I was surprised but he said they said their computers would not communicate with one that old????
I am 67 and can no longer work on my own cars much less a friends but told him I was on the blogs and would ask.
Around here there are a couple of really good Corvette repair shops and if my car needs service beyond my capabilities I take it to one of them

I'd recommend checking the basics that I mentioned above, first. Those things are easy to check, and cost nothing.
Then, I'd suggest getting an OBD I (for "old" cars) scan tool, so that you can "see" what the computer sees. You can get awesome ones on ebay for ~$200 or so.
Finally, armed with the basics and a scan tool, I'd tell your friend to join this here forum and ask us to help guide him through the diagnosis of his high idle issue...and others as they arise.
