I assume this is an 85?
I believe the 84 had either a 97 or 108 amp option (I'd have to double check) but I can say at idle the 108 wasn't enough even stock, lights would dim somewhat. I ended up going to a CS144.
But to answer your question, I don't believe there are any issues preventing the swap. Both the 120 and 108 are a 17si case so it should be okay... I looked at some reman units in the past and a 120 vs a 108 was only about a 5$ difference but that was searching online units/rebuilders. I rebuilt my 17si years ago for about 30$.
Even GM when replacing the 108A for an '85 used/suggested the 120A and I'd think as mentioned there should be minimal $$ involved.
Most in the 'after-market' I'd think would maybe use the same 120A.
An '85 108A original would be a 1105450 and the 120A 1105585 - when searching or shopping 'local' compare both and there should be few $$. I'd think. Where are you shopping that you see several $$$ difference?
17SI parts may be a difficult 'local' buy for a DIY.
Do you believe yours is original or maybe an already replaced reman?
Between E Bay Motors and Rock Auto i can definitely get 99% of the stuff i need , and i know that the standard package for the 85 offered the 108A but the more reading i do the more i am sure i will not go that route for sure !!!

I had edited my post and asked this question BUT you had already posted back.

I'd buy from a 'single source' vs your mentioned sources..
These guys would do you well. If the link sticks that would be an appropriate 120A 17SI I believe.

This link has ID that if yours displays the same it could be 'original'. A + for using yours or if you decided later an 'off the shelf' then yours if original might likely sell more easily + a few $$.
