Default Why on the C5?

I've never figured out why they got rid of the cool hood you guys have. Love my C5, but I really would love to have the clamshell hood and the fatter tires you guys got. They tossed the hood to save weight? Improve on head-on crashes? Cheaper?

more difficult to design.. more expensive... and I believe insurance companies flat dont like them either. :D Besides, there's nothing interesting to look at under the hood in a C5, no reason to spend more so you can see more plastic.

1. It costs a lot.
2. It flexes a lot.
3. It is heavy to keep it sturdy.
4. If you get hit anywhere in the front most likely your hood will have to be replaced.

I do love it though. :D

I imagine the hood does allow the car to flex more than it should, but I don't know what I'd do without it. I love it and it's definetly unique. :chevy

I love it too. I have heard that the expense of a repair to the front end did them in.

That's some nicely painted plastic... but nothing compares to big sexy runners.

 It's funny I was primarily a Dodge guy with gussied up 340 and 360
motors that always had the chrome air-cleaner and valve covers. My C5
was the first to have those items covered with plastic. Go figure.
