Default Code 45 : Temperature Control Switch

Code 45, I have been working this code for some time.

My solution to the code, replace the TCS (Temperature Control Switch). I could not find the piece at an affordable price, so I modified the old one....

I disassembled the switch by "filing" off the the crown, the retaining ring that holds the connector in place on the switch. Removed the original parts to make room for a thermo sensor.

The circuit is closed when cold, and opens at 35 C'.

Location

1985-1989 Chevrolet Corvette Cold Start Valve Temperature Switch Standard Motor Products EGT4 85-89 1988 1986 Part Number: 3218-07113890

"Crown" removed

the old "guts" of the switch.

Where to solder, and what to remove.

Parts for the install.

Location: At the front of the plenum, to the right of the temperature sensor, oval connector. The TCS connector is "square".

What year Corvette do you have? I have a 89 that I’m having 2 problems. First problem is hard starting when car is cold. Second problem is cooling fan turns on all the time when engine started, even when engine is cold. Looks like I have 4 sensors - #1 is in right head, # 2 and 3 front block by intake and #4 in left head. The sensor in drivers side left head is a single wire plug. I read that the passenger side head sensor might be for the gauge which in fact works properly. Does my car have a cold start sensor? I believe that one of those front sensors feeds the ECM. I assume the drivers side head sensor controls the fan. At this point I might just change them all. The hard start when cold is my biggest problem.
