Default Where does this part go?

I labeled it "from heater box to defrost" but I can't find a hole to put it into. Anybody recognize it? I thought it went under the passenger side dash as part of the duct work, but now I dunno.

It goes from the heater box to the box behind the radio that someone cut off due to the almost impossible to remove upper screw at the box behind the radio. You should be able to see the other part of it under the pass side if you remove the under dash panel.a lot of people cut it to replace heater core then use a home depot plumbing connector and tape.

Well, I looked and I see no empty holes where somethig should connect. May I assume that "heater box" is the area that contains the heater core? If yes, there is a part that holds the core and then a part that covers it. I don't see/feel a hole in either part so maybe I'm looking in the wrong area. Is there a diagram anywhere that showes the duct routing for the a/c defrost system? I don't see one in the FSM.

If I get a chance I'll see if I can take a picture of it on my car. There is a YouTube video of how to change the heater core it shows it on there and explains why people cut it instead of remove it, yours has been cut. You should be able to feel the cover of the heater box for a hole the size of that tube or turn on the heat and you'll feel the air coming out unless someone taped the hole shut.

There are a couple eBay offerings of 'duct packages' that if you ZOOM the images might help you. This is one

https://www.ebay.com/itm/28344672728...3ABFBMoL39wqZg

A snapshot of this part appears frequently it seems. Not owning an early C4 I've never paid much attention.

Those eBay photos helped. I've been looking for the wrong thing and I believe both ends of that tube have been cut. If you happen to get the that YouTube vid you mentioned please send a link. I've been looking but not found the right one, there's a ton of 'em. Now, to find the part number for that piece .....

Do you still have all of your pieces removed and in a pile or are some put back to car. That ducting is confusing. If yours is still in a pile check all of your pieces for molded part #'s.

I believe correct for the center is GM #14081369 for your year. eBay has a current listing if you search with that #.

The case where it attaches should be like this. #9 in this image.

The part can't be seen when evrything is together.
It goes in the large hole in the heater core cover.(first pic).
Second pic shows the duct that covers it. It diverts air to the side window defrosters. The pic is a screen shot from a youtube video and the guy that made it cut the left half of the defroster duct

My heater box is different than the one shown here. However, the large, round opening does exist on mine as well, but it is being used by a duct that seems to extend all the way across the width of the car from window to window. It would appear that the "unkown part" may have been left there by a previous owner when they replaced that part? I don't know how, but my part seems to be an extra reminent and not needed at this point. Sorry for the confusion ... but I'm still confused 'bout where it came from and why. Oh well, thanks everybody for the attention given to this post. I'm gonna go on back to my corner now and sulk.

Yep, the same thing I had in my '87. You ever determin if was to be used, or just an extra part?
Thanks for the reply. I don't feel quite so silly now.

No worries, but I still have it sitting in a box in my shop looking for a home. Everything still works normally, so I don't worry about it. There are a few threads that I have found over the years with the same question, so it is not just us.

It gors in th ehole before the duct goes on the outside. It is there to divert air into the outer duct.
