Just bought a 89 C4 I’m in love but I have a problem. I wanna take the targa top off. I have the tool. Got both rear screws out and loosened the front passenger side one. I cannot no matter how hard I try (and I don’t wanna break or strip it ) get the screw loose. It’s impossible and won’t budge. I sprayed some wd40 on it hoping that does something but if not what do I do? I don’t own a heat gun so that’s not an option. Thanks
Congratulations on the car ! I believe your on the correct path . Let that penetrating oil get in there and bust loose the old ( crud) let er sit .
Leverage is your friend , if you can get a cheater bar on that little guy( I would try to get a bigger drive on the star bit instead of the 1/4 drive ratchet ) get a 18” or so hallow pipe slide it over the ratchet and keep pressure on the star bit with one hand and the other on the end of your cheater pipe and pop goes the weezle !
careful of sliding of and breaking glass .
There is one ☝️tried and proven method.
hope it helps , let’s us know .
GOD bless,
Robert
I would try impact. On my 66 GTO the door hinges are attached to the door with large Philips head bolts. I used the #1 tip in a cordless impact drill and they popped right out. They almost stripped using a 1/2" ratchet with the same thing.
