The bronze is the more uncommon tint you find, you might be able to sell that. Something to consider also is if your car has the RPO code for dual tops in which case you might want to save it for re-sale purposes should you ever decide to replace your car at some point. But I agree...over the years I've transitioned from top off, to tinted top to solid top 100% because of the heat and sun pounding down on my chrome dome. You'll also find the solid top much more durable (and heavier).
Been looking for another Bronze top.. I live in Indy, drove 100 miles to buy the one I now have, It crqcked on the drive home. I ' Good luck with yours
If it's OEM, I'll keep it, but if it's aftermarket I'll let it go. I do not know the difference (yet) between OEM and aftermarket, but the bronze top doesn't look hard to attain "aftermarket". I'll have to decode the RPO sheet again, but I'm pretty sure only the bronze top was listed. ...although it does have the meaningless "best of everything" RPO if I recall correctly, so, would that in itself be indicative of a second top?
The top should have some markings on it (stickers, decals, stamps ect...) these identifiers should help determine if it's aftermarket or not (will need to use Google). Keep in mind, the aftermarket tops typically utilize OE frames so the indentifiers i'm refering to would be on the lens itself.
Actually, I was considering tinting it with a good UV film that blocks 90%+ of sunlight too. The UV heat is the worst of it I think. Even in our Toyota and Hyundai which do not have tinted windows but do have a UV film in the glass, there is a literal night and day difference in the amount of heat you feel window up versus down.
I was unaware there were specific "kits" for this. Davies Corvette (corvetteparts.com) is less than 5 miles from here, I'll give them a call. Thanks for pointing this out!
I was told by the tint shop that did my windows they cannot do the top cause its lexan or whatever. If you find one that works please post.
It's actually not bad like 45 bucks from corvette central. Your idea would work as well and probably cheaper, I hadn't thought of that. As for tint he didn't really explain just said you couldn't, he was a bit of curmudgeon so I didn't get into it. Figured he was turning down the money so must've known it wasn't possible.
I used the pre-cut static cling once, i think it was $35 , it fit nice you just need to clean the surface very well and just be patient when installing (to do a good job). it doesnt look like the tint blocks much because of the prism/honeycomd pattern but it does. it's a great way to start and see if you like it. you're not out much if it doesnt meet your standards/expectations
