Trying to replace wiper arm and having trouble. Most newer models the arm pulls away from windshield at a 90-degree angle, this one barely moves and I can't get the arm to slid on to the spline. What's the "trick"?

Thanks, Frank
lift it up to the point of resistance then on the bottom of the arm where it attaches to the spline there is a tab that sticks out use a screw driver and just pry it towards the windshield and it will pop off , dont do what i did and force it you will break the arm and they aint cheap if you cant figure it out i will take a pict of mine to show you , but once you see that tab its not bad just make sure you raise the arm to the point it stops then pry the slide out
The 10 Section of the FSM should have images. An '85 FSM somewhere near 10-38 or so. The figure should be ID'd as 10-51 likely. If you don't have it, post back mentioning the need and I'll post an image of that from the FSM.

i have the arm off already, that was easy. Do you mean completly remove the retainer clip? It seems there isn't enough room to get the arm to line up squarely with the spline, and slip on easily; it wants to **** and go on crooked thereby binding up

No don't remove - just to the released position. Do you have both off or just 1? Cycle the wipers one time with either no arm or just one attached, after they park do the install. Wiper arms have been this way for many many years/a few decades.
I know how much arms cost and I don't want to break mine. If I pull hard enough away from the wind shield will the arm come up at approximately a 90 degree angle like most cars? It seems like it would take an awful lot of pressure
