Hey, can anyone tell me if the black shocks that came on an 84 C4 are similar to the black AC delco shocks you see for sale on rockauto and other automotive parts sites? I would buy bilstein but im trying to keep a stock look. Thanks
Likely NOT! If there are still 'labels' on your shocks I believe they could be ID'd as to what they were originally by RPO. Do you have any with a label still on them?
If there were any numbers stamped in the tubes that could also likely ID them! Check the lower tube near the mount. An '84 if original you might find either a 7 or 8 digit number stamped into the tube.
Just replaced original 84 C4 with the black ACDelco shocks you are talking about
Reason--"stock look"
Give me a couple days to look for part numbers on old shocks
FYI--Original front shocks has two different designs of rubber bushings on upper shock mount ( ON UPPER--lower "T" shaped, upper "T" goes through bushing (larger center hole))
Never seen this on replacement shocks
Ark, that sounds great. I appreciate you looking into the shocks. I crawled under the car last night and noticed that they do say "Made in mexico" on them on the back side. Im trying to get a look at the whole serial number on them but i cant read all of it.
To all
Front Part Shock Number 22024551 Plaicell 309-83
Rear Part Shock Number 22024643 Plaicell
Both stamped Dayton Ohio

Thanks Ark! Great pics. I crawled around under the car last night and got a look at mine. It looks like mine are the Ac Delco ones that Ecklers sells as the numbers on the shocks match those. The ones you are showing here i believe are the factory ones that came with the car. Unfortunately i can only assume these are no longer available
You are correct "factory shocks" after many, many years--purchased a 'real survivor' last year with factory Bose radio, bread box, cover over distributor, etc.
