Default Old tires

On my 89, previous owner put 100 miles on it since 2016. The rear tires were replaced when he got his last inspection in 2016. The front tires had at least 1/2 tread left but had some cracking. When I looked at date code on tires, they were from 2004. Exceeded their life expectancy by about 10 years. I replaced them and car rides much better and smoother. Just some advice for guys who use their Corvettes on weekends and nice days, keep an eye on those date codes. Manufacturers say tires should be replaced every 6 years.

and still will say "well I only go to shows, 40 mph its fine". Right...
I had a tire unravel on a test drive 200 yds after getting on the main st. Under 20mph no warning
You can lose control, destroy a quarter panel etc. Couldnt afford to replace my tires on a bet but mine are almost 8 yrs old.
Less than 100 miles on them only seen daylight a few times. Reluctantly im gonna have to put new rubber on .

People who pull trailers are worse than weekend Corvette drivers about replacing their tires. That is why you see so many trailers (of all types) sitting on the side of the rode with a flat tire. Folks just can't grasp the fact that the lifespan will be exceeded long before the tread is even part way worn.

Totally agree. I had tyres dated back to 2009. After replacing with new ones, the car (1988) drives much better - less road noise, better cornering and much less harsh ride. The old ones were so hard you couldn't compress the rubber at all.

I bought this 94 zr1 last summer, car has 46k for miles, I only put about 100 miles on it before it went into winter storage, this summer I have had it out twice putting a total of about 325 miles on what I found out were "old tires" they are Goodyear Eagles, the 275's on the front have a 2005 date and the 315's on the back have a 2012 date, I know I dodged a bullet in taking the car out on the road, the first time I did not really know how old the tires were, this last weekend I did and I choose to roll the dice, not very smart, there will be new tires on the car the next time it is out on the road.

Bout 6-7 years is when you need to replace, regardless of mileage. Beyond that, don't trust em for spirited driving at all.

It pisses me off that I’m going to have to replace my tires because they are too old. I used to wear them out. You cant even get the stock 16’s anymore, can you ?

You still can…but it’s going to cost you twice what it should. Supply and demand tax!!!!
