Default Windshield Replacement

Any advice on getting my 89 Corvette’s windshield replaced? Found a local glass shop that has one in stock. He thought the “inner & upper gaskets should be fine with garage storage & only 72k for miles. Any thoughts are much appreciated!

I think it would be wise to get the windshield weatherstripping anyway as removing it can sometimes tear it or otherwise damage it. When I had mine done I had no choice but to leave the lower seal/gasket as it was. It’s no longer available. I have no problems with leaks so I guess it’s ok.

I used Safelite about 8 years ago and am a satisfied customer. If your local shop takes their time especially disassembling and removing the old windshield you should have no problems.

Found a local business which has been around for 30+ years. Having them order the gaskets which will likely get destroyed due to age. Only thing I’m not sure if it can be saved or where to get another, are the two black pieces from the a-pillars in ward from both sides?

If you’re talking about the black plastic channels that run along the bottom edge of the w/s then yes, they’re still available I believe . You don’t necessarily need them but they give a little more finished look and help to prevent any chipping of the glass edge.

Thanks. I found them & hopefully I can get them in before the windshield is replaced or hopefully I can put them on after the new windshield is installed!

You shouldn't have a problem putting them in after the windshield is installed. I just recently had my windshield replaced, and they replaced the weather strip that run along the outside of the A pillars and along the top of the windshield where the front of the targa top rests on Unfortunately, they replaced it with the rubber type that apparently was shipped with the windshield, and now there is a LOT of squeaking and wind noise that wasn't there before. It squeaked a little before once in a while, but not near what it does now. I am going to see if they will replace it with the original type of weather stripping. Just wanted to give a little food for thought just in case they replace your weather stripping as well.
