Default '96 Misc Interior Cleaning and Repairs

After acquiring my '96 Corvette, I wanted to share how I cleaned my interior and a few other fixes. The car was a barn find, several rats nests and chewed wires. Thanks

Chewed wires, Rat condo #1 was under the shifter

Replacing the window motor

New motor

Rat Condo #2

I had to steam this piece. It had some nasty old fluid inside. I later removed the whole insulation for a better cleaning

Take a better picture of the engine compartment. It looks like the intake manifold is red ????

There is a reason why I am asking.

If you have any residual odors, I use Ozium. Works great.

Will do, there's more to upload, I just got sidetrack with another mission... The intake was painted. I thought the same thing, but the numbers show differently

The final product... It's a 40K miles C4. Therefore it should look and smell like 40K miles, not 500K miles lol.

I use to use that, but the vanilla scent. It worked like a dream, I even had some for home lol. Now the Vette has a natural leather smell to it. It's very pleasant and not overwhelming like before.

The Ozium I have doesn't have a vanilla scent. It is really odorless. You don't want to breath it. My car had a mildew smell from sitting when we got it. The Ozium completely killed the smell.

Default Impressive Work

I too just purchased a '96 and went through a similar process. One small suggestion if the seat has wear from sliding entry. I purchased for $10 some light grey shoe polish to cover up the wear marks. Worked great! Used a steam cleaner on dirty surfaces.

Thanks for the post.

Beast of luck.

There are actually companies that can re-die and then re-clear the leather. That is what we had done to our seats. Ours were not worn out, but had black spots from mildew from sitting under a car cover too much before we bought it.

Once I had everything clean, I had the leather re-done.

You can see the spots, before and after. These have held up well. We had this done 5 years ago.

You can also buy the die itself, and the clear.

Thanks Boss. That's some pretty valuable information. I didn't think about the polish, but I've been thinking about a shoe leather conditioner instead if the normal stuff you buy at the store. Did you take photos of the process? Before and afters' are great!

Sometimes I wonder how effective steamers are. She's defiantly a gem. And the seats came out great too. Were the original leather seats hard, or was it still soft? Thanks for sharing Chief

My seats were ok. I also used leather conditioner on them.

1) Remove center cover plate (Don't use metal like I did)
2) Remove two torx screws
3) Pull out vent
4) Remove The three bolts

Unless there's more screws underneath, the panel should slide right out...
