i bought an inexpensive set of oem CE wheels. Perfect as a second set of wheels for my 90 endurance racecar with 275 40 17 falken rt660 or possibly use as my 89 daily driver rims. For the love that i have for c4’s, ....its kind of ahocking that i find thier rims, until the Amold 5spokes, to be hideous when installed. I actually think the rims on thier own..uninstalled...are really cool. The sawblades and saladshooters. Look good...until u put them on the car lol!! Cant stand em. I live with my sawblades on my zr-1 because ....i havnt found a factory a-mold set to replace them. Thought id share my experience Who knows if it will work but i dropped off the damaged rim to repair shop today.
anyway, lets see how this can be repaired ill show the after pics as well.
Body Shops are a good place to look for a referral. Prices are all over the place, getting the ding out and leaving it ugly might be reasonable for a track wheel. Getting it pretty I would look for another used one.
If you don't mind shipping, try Wheel Works Detroit. I had one as bad as yours. When Edie is done you will never know that there was a problem. Send him photos and just get a quote. Nothing easier then that.
When they acid dip the wheel to remove the existing paint they are going to discover that the wheel has a very porous casting and that the manufacturer had to use significant build up primer to smooth the wheel surface out prior to paint.
if you want the best paint match purchase a new set of center caps for a match because GM paint mixes for argent gray vary from one paint vendor to another.
he said the reason the recoated wheels may look a wee tad off is because they are forced to use water based now...but they can get it pretty darn close they added a second bit here and are doing another machining then recoating.
