For a C4 I wouldn't worry about rarity unless it's a ZR-1 or a GS. My '96 is 1 of 13 using Coupe/Black/Grey/F45/LT1. Using the percentages, with a blue glass top it is 1 of 5.
But I don't think anybody at anytime would consider the rarity of my particular combination an advantage. Engines almost always make the difference. Particularly when coupled to limited editions (i.e. GS).
The combo you post about is a handsome devil though. Good luck in your search.
[Edit].. sorry, just re-read and got the gist of your post. I hope that combo you're looking for isn't too rare. Happy hunting!
I have a yellow 90 ZR-1 which is 1 of 23 Comp Yellows (code 53)
The 90 yellows (code 53) are photosensitive. Increased sunlight causes the color to shift to a darker shade of yellow. Reduced sunlight causes the color to shift back to a lighter shade. Because of this condition, production of competition yellow in 1990 was stopped. This photosensitive characteristic does not affect the durability of of the paint finish.... all color shift changes are only temporary.
Chevrolet recommends Chromabase B9058K be used in any repair of a Comp yellow 90 Vette. This paint will duplicate the original color and photosensitivity characteristic.
I have a letter from GM dated August 9, 1990 From Chevrolet Motor Division stating the following #'s
Coupes 171 (which includes 23 ZR-1s)
Convertibles 107
Total production 278
To answer your question, the yellow is pretty rare. I have the black interior on my ZR-1 and it looks great. If you like Yellow and black interiors, I would jump on that car if you are able to locate one. The number of 6 speeds would probably be even less.
