Default Corvette sub-brand and SUV on the horizon?

This article from Hagerty has some good and bad news in my mind. The new ZR1 looks mind boggling but the idea of an SUV totally turns me off. Chevrolet has plenty of high end offerings in that category so why mess with a proven product? Oh, Yeah, we're talking about GM. They have never done anything like that have they????

They have talked about the crossover SUV for some time, Bob Lutz wanted it when he saw what Porsche did with the Cayenne/Macan and what Lambo Urus, Bentley, Ferrari Purosangue, etc. are all doing now. They're big profit makers, well over the cars these brands make.

I don't think Corvette needs to be a subbrand, I think you have the current Blazer and its actually a good looking SUV, it just needs upgrading of performance to get to Cayenne levels.

I just don't get it. Even worse: I'm old enough to remember when GM had to cut a few brands to cut cost. Remember Pontiac, Saturn, and Oldsmobile? What really killed them off? GM was basically making the exact same cars with slightly different body work as different brands. Why the hell would they splinter the brands again to make multiple cars with different grills and expect different results than the last time?

GM and Ford copy each other's success. Look at the 04 Mustang. Ford had huge success with bringing back the 60's style. Dodge brought back the Challenger and GM brought back the Camaro with 60s styling. Now look at Ford's eMustang. That is a huge success. So GM is copying with a Corvette SUV. I don't know why they just don't call it a eCamaro instead. GM has an endless inventory of names to use.
