Dashboard Debris
Mario, 57 from New York:
Good evening. I am new here and am grateful for all the endless information on this site. I bought an '87 C4 convertible base 3 weeks ago. 25000 original miles. I have owned many cars in my life, and this is my favorite. I love the car and how it performs. I still have to have my mechanic go through it thoroughly, just to confirm everything is up to speed.
I noticed when I cleaned and vacuumed the interior, I vacuumed what looked like crumbs on the top of the dash. (they weren't crumbs) It was then spotless and love a clean dashboard. I am noticing 8 days later, this debris is back. I find myself once again vacuuming this up...Can anyone shed some light on what it may be? Or if this is a common issue with an older corvette, like normal wear of the dash. I don't want to spray it with cleaner yet, or armor all it until I can maybe figure out what it is. The dashboard itself is very clean with no cracks. Best regards!

Could it be bits of foam seals blown from the defroster vents?
Look behind the louvers in the A/C outlets for chunks of foam lodged behind the louvers. The various doors in the HVAC system have foam edge seals so they seal when fully closed or opened. These seals deteriorate over time. In my experience with numerous C4 of many years, this is common. My 85 and my 92 have deteriorated seals, and my 90 really has deteriorated seals. I've never attempted to repair this condition, because it is an incredible amount of work. I just clean up after it.

My 84 does the same thing to the dash when I use the defrost. It will lotteries the dash with little bits of crumbled foam pieces. Unfortunately without pulling the dash and resealing the ducting, it's something I will live with. I keep a microfiber cloth in the center console and I wipe the debris off after each drive.
