CD/TAPE Player

I had a similar problem with my casette player (stuck, no eject casette) recently in my '94 and decided to use a bent paper clip with the power on to try to coerce the cassette to eject. HUGE MISTAKE!!!
The paper clip briefly just "touched" something metal in the radio and the entire car was instantly left dead - no start, no LCD panel, no error codes, no interior lights, no power windows, etc.
As best I can tell, I somehow shorted out and/or corrupted the BCM (located directly behind the radio). After days of aggravation and removing half the interior, the BCM as been sent out for repair/re-programming. Prior to this episode, I had more or less 10 years of trouble-free driving (with one very notable exception, when a bad ICM left me stranded on the Interstate in Arkansas).
Lesson Learned - Never stick anything metal in your dash or radio - especially with the power on.
For my fix, I removed the console and radio bezel and creafully removed the Bose radio. Once out of the car, I was able to take the top off the radio and force the casette out. I suspect you might be able to do something similar for the CD player. Either way, my recommendation is not to do anything in your car with the power on. Whether you fix it yourself or send it out - you'll have to remove the radio, anyways.
Many C4 owners have had great results from Dr Don. I talked to him by phone during my debacle - very knowledgeable.

Still loved your story, and the heck-of-it is I probably would have done the same thing.
Next project.
