Default trailer lites

i am trying to hook up trailer lites, is the heavy black wire ground?

Usually the black wite is ground....... many manufacturers use it that way but you can't depend on it. Best to check continuity to ground from the wire with a DVOM to make sure.

Hmm, I believe on a 4-wire flat trailer harness the white wire is ground. Brown, yellow, green and white. White being ground. I'm not sure about other harnesses.
