Just noticed Summit Racing is selling Gen 1 opti's for 190.00. Seems a decent price if they are reliable. They don't give much info on their website. Just curious if anyone has experience with these? Are they just repackaged Chinese junk or does Summit get them from a reliable vendor?

At that price point it’s more than likely just ***** garbage. Sac city has them for the same Money but if you read close it’s more Chinese junk as well, but it does come with a two year warranty if you buy it through them.

When I had to replace mine I was able to find a genuine GM remanufactured unit made in Mexico, it took some looking by a local parts guy that knew what he was doing ( not like the mouth breathers at AutoZone ) price was substantially more than 180 bucks too but it’s been trouble free since. I despise having to do a job twice.

I put a summit opti on my 92 last summer and it’s been working great for the 1000 or so miles I’ve put on it. It seemed like a quality unit with brass terminals in the cap. For the money I’m happy so far. I think I paid about $175. Yes it’s made in Communist China but what isn’t these days.
