Oil pump key and distributor alignment?
I am trying to get my distributor back where it was but it is being difficult, will not drop the last 3/8". I marked and photographed everything and include the "extra twist" that comes with lowering it but it will never lower the last step lined up. I just went out and dropped the distributor in and it moved the oil pump key. Do you sometimes have to manipulate the oil pump key for installation ? Does the "twist" during installation move it, meaning if you miss lining up the distributor the first time have you moved the key ?
Thanks for any help

Either keep working the distributor up and down, all the way around,... or use a long flat screwdriver.
Meaning to work the rotor around clockwise, seating all the way down every time, going one more tooth at at time, spinning the oil pump drive shaft until you're back around to your rotor mark and and oil pump shaft is aligned and the distributor is seated fully. This is faster for me than a long screwdriver.

Thanks, I have seen that (bump starter) technique but the car is a little to disassembled for that. I guess I have to move the oil pump as it has no effect on timing.
ThomasR the screwdriver did it, thanks.
