Hello Ive wanted a corvette for a few years and have extra money for one now. This corvette is for sale by me has 89k miles, has been sitting a few years, no key the owner passed away, not sure if auto or manual. How much do you think its worth? Thank you Michael
A lot will depend on how long it has been sitting, how it was stored and how it's equipped. A non runner basically without a key has so many things that will crop up after you manage to get it running. What year it is will make a difference also as the 84's typically don't bring as much as the later years mainly due to the CrossFire engine.
It looks to be in decent cosmetic condition from what I can see from the one picture but who knows what the other side looks like. If it looks as good on the other side as the driver side looks and the interior is the same than I'm thinking in the $2000 range give or take $500 depending on which trans it has. It for sure is going to need tires and the headlight motor gears and most likely a whole lot more. I do like that color combo and think it would likely clean up nice.
Now-------------- What caught my attention immediately is what is sitting on the other side of it.. That would be the one I would be inquiring about!!!!

The 1958 according to the post has been in the garage sitting for 2 decades. I'm sure that corvette will scoop up the attention its a part of an estate sale. Just for curiosity what makes the 1958 corvette so popular is it rare?
Any C1 is very valuable, some more so than others depending on how it is equipped. That it is the first year that they really changed up the body style and to those that like the new look it would be very attractive. Rarity is a given with most of the C1's as it was still touch and go if the Corvette would survive the bean counters at GM.
As to the one you are looking at, What year is it and does the ad give you any idea how long it was owned by the deceased?
That key has to be around. Guy like that does things with purpose. I'd scour that garage and the car. Think like an old man that likes cars. I'd bet they are near bye. I have a drawer with all my key sets from any car I've owned that may have been left over after being sold or traded.
GOOD eye Bucket! Where is that estate sale and when??? Post a link.
Ok, 84 is on the low end of the totempole as far as values go. Now all you 84 owners don't start flaming me as I have nothing against the 84's and would own one it the right one came along. That being said, it does affect what most of us would be willing to offer with an apples to apples comp of a later year model. Are they asking for offers in the ad or is it a bid type of sale? I would try to find out which transmission it has as a stick does bump up the value.
Ya it's a bid up sale, they are having a preview before the auction to come check it out. Hopefully the owner didnt leave the car locked in the garage, the company that posted the picture didnt get any inside. Would be a big plus for it to be a manual!
Do you know if it is going to be an auction that all can see what has been bid IE: BAT or will it be sealed bid? If it isn't far I would be over there looking at it asap. It would be very helpful to know what condition the interior is in and if it's a stick. I think given the cosmetic condition of what is shown it would be a worthy project if you can buy it cheap enough and are capable of doing the fixes yourself. Hopefully no rodents have built any condos while it has been slumbering.
Ya you can see the bids in real time, might scare a few people away since it needs a bit of work. I'm a diesel mechanic so i figured I'll save money doing the work myself.
There you go! That's the only way you will come out of it with any possibility of not being way upside down on a investment to value scale. the CrossFire isn't any powerhouse but for a fun to drive good looking car that you can enjoy driving while you fix it up I think that one has real possibility. That it has been stored inside makes all the difference as it likely won't need much to get it to shine. That it is a 84 is actually a good thing as you don't have any VATS to deal with if the key can't be found.
Do we know for sure that it's an '84? '85 also offered paint combo 20/23 Light Blue/Medium Blue. And both years had the black emblem disc in the center of the wheels. Primary difference is the increase in horsepower from 205 to 230. The CrossFire went out after 84 and '85 was the first year for the Bosch fuel injectors. It definitely needs new tires, Need to fix that headlamp that is stuck open, but this could be a find and an affordable way into some fun. Good luck and hope you find our good info and join the two-tone club!

Is it just me or is that open headlight installed backwards?
Update first day of the live auction the 1958 corvette is at 40k and the 1984 corvette is at 2k how high do you think i should feel comfortable bidding on it?
This one is hard without a little more information. I agree with some others on here, looking at his C1 he was probably an owner that did the maintenance. You could tell folks in this forum what you are looking for and people on here will send you tons of listings. We are all always looking! good luck.
What is going on...??? Questions should have been tossed around prior to jumping in with a bid.
Were you able to go inspect the car? That would have given you some real direction. Do you know the miles? Is there mold inside? If it just sat in a non climate control environment for years, you are in for some additional work addressing rust, replacing hoses, brakes will be corroded and in need of attention. $2000 is really a very small amount to gamble with. Without miles, I have no guess as to possible outcome.

Were you able to verify which trans it has? That will make a difference as to how high to bid it. I myself wouldn't go much past $2500 if it's a manual and would be all in at that if it's an auto. Have you had a chance to see it in person? If the interior needs a lot of work you could end up way upside down as you are for sure going to need tires and a bunch of service work to get it safe to drive. Just My 2 cents.
Going to see it in person today. The doors are locked on the car and the previous owner passed so no key, will do my best to inspect interior, and look it over, and see if it's auto or manual. Maybe its in great condition but I havent bid myself on the 1984 yet.
