But not just any bolt, the D36 crosspin bolt. I bought a diff here on the forum some time ago and am just now getting around to putting it in my car. When I got to looking at it the crosspin bolt is broken off. I'm a little leary of using it anyway. No telling if it might work it's way out under use so I need to get it out. Problem being, there is no straight shot at it with an easy out since it is below the surface of the diff housing. How do I get what is left of this bolt out? Thanks in advance!! And now I need another bolt too......
OK, I'm an idiot. It isn't broken because my old diff is the same way. I was expecting the same bolt like any other GM carrier. So the FSM says to knock it out using a punch but has the diff out of the housing first. Is this thing supposed to be a PIA to put new seals in? At this point I'm thinking toss it in the car like it is.

Have you already bought the seals etc? Did you clean it or did it arrive like we see it? How many miles were mentioned when you bought it? Was there any seeping of the seals noted when you received it? There wont be a more appropriate time BUT ............
**** Rock the short-axles back and forth. If you see no play/wobble etc. with the pinion shaft maybe you do just 'go for it' . If you decided to reseal it there's 2 small pinion washers that here we would normally replace and consider it maintenance.
I've had this diff for a while. I can't remember the mileage but it wasn't bad. I got it just as you see it. I haven't done any cleaning and it is dry all over. I already have the seals.

You bought also a pinion seal? Did you buy new pinion nut?
Maybe since you know what's involved in the removal for next time to do the seals later you 'toss a coin'? Drop the nose in a bucket and fill with fluid and let the bearings soak spinning by hand the short axles from time to time. If it was washed by the PO the bearings have been dry for a long while. Reach out to the seller and ask questions?
