86 vette, and i think all the worse possible cases for a hood to not open has happened lol
went to a mechanic to get them to look at it, he closed the hood (despite me telling him not to and didnt even check to see if it SHOULD be PUSHED SHUT - yes he pushed down on it to shut it close) then looked to realize there is no release - cables are stretched and doubt theyre any good. hes completely ruined it, cuz i dont think theres any springs and i think the latch is jammed. the hood is shut closed and now the engine wont turnover.. is there any way to get the hood released w/o using the tool for when cables arent working? we've tried using the tool, but nothing triggering that latch and its hard to find a mechanic out here who wants to work on a c4.
is there a way to still get it open with the tool or should i cut my losses and find someone else to do it for me?
Just changed the hood release cables on my ‘88 and shut the pass side before having it adjusted properly.
I took the wheel off and inner liner and then was able to use the emergency release tool to get the latch to release. It’s a tight fit and took a while playing around though.
Def get the car out of that idiots hands though.
this sucks but not the end of the world. it's just a technique to use the tool, you'll get it! once you open it, add the pull-cables to each side. There's multiple problems with this hood latch system...cables stretch, components are plastic, replacing the cables sucks...dealing with the release lever inside the car is just a PITA
home depot paint roller 22 inch long, $5.99 cut off excess. done. worked the first time i tried it.
